Join #SaveMyLungs Campaign demands for #CleanAir #CleanUP.

To,
Hon’ble Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh.

Air quality of Uttar Pradesh is failing to meet the prescribed National Air Quality Standards which is recognized for causing adverse impact on human health. The impact of air pollution is not limited to health but extends to agriculture, public mobility sector, general well being of humans and ecosystem. Air pollution has increasingly become a serious concern predominantly because of its health impact.

The Sustainable Development Goals announced by the United Nations specifically mention the promise of Clean Air for All in two separate sections. SDG 3.9 speaks about substantial reduction of health impacts from hazardous substances whereas SDG 11.6 describes the adverse impacts of cities on people.

It clearly states that clean air is everyone’s fundamental right. Having a unified voice and translating the SDGs into action is now the duty of citizens and governments.

The 100%UP campaign understands that implementing the National Clean Air Action Plan, which is an ambitious and a time bound action plan announced by the Indian Government in 2019, will significantly reduce or eliminate air pollution from our cities, thus protecting our health.

On behalf of the responsible citizens of Uttar Pradesh, an appeal to mitigate and reduce air pollution is presented. This appeal includes following:-

1. To ensure the stringent implementation of the National Clean Air Programme.
2. To ensure stringent implementation of mitigation for prevention, control and abatement of air pollution.
3. To ensure statewide democratisation of the Air Quality Monitoring Network.
4. To ensure the mandatory issue of health advisories by district/city authorities in public friendly language.
5. To ensure the arrangements for scientific waste disposal management at the local level.
6. To ensure the formulation of a state and city specific plan for e-mobility.
7. To ensure government-run buses for public transport, private buses and 3- wheelers to convert to EVs in a time bound manner.
8. To ensure gradual transition to e-mobility in the 2-wheeler sector.
9. The promotion of solar energy and the increase of subsidies for rooftop solar installations should be prioritised.
10. There is a need for optimising the use of the existing power plants by prioritising capacity utilisation of natural gas/ clean fuel- based thermal power plants.
11. To ensure use of Bio-Ethanol in the city/urban transport system/ waste to energy.

12. To ensure just transition of the brick kiln industry in terms of energy and technology.
13. To ensure execution of city specific plantation plans.
14. To ensure the implementation of maintaining at least 33% forest cover in the state.

As citizens of Uttar Pradesh, let’s endorse these demands and ask our Hon’ble Chief Minister to step up and make our state cleaner and healthier. Your support will help Uttar Pradesh become an inspiring, model state and be recognized as the best air quality state on the map of India, a state where citizens can enjoy clean air, clean surroundings, and healthy living conditions!

Thank You.
